Where does the GUI tool put the file during a backup?

Post by crumbo »

Hi. I used the "USB Image Tool" with my bootable USB stick (a non-OEM version of Windows 10 install stick), and I thought I was producing a .iso, but apparently that's not what your tool does. I couldn't find an .iso file afterward, nor could I find any file that looked like the install disk. Possibly I'm looking in the wrong places. Can you tell me where exactly, on a Windows 10 computer, to look for the backup file?

Thanks, Alex.

The file is usually a *.img, *.imz or *.img.gz file and is stored at the location, that you selected in the Backup file dialog. There is no fixed location. Maybe you can find your file, when you search for the default extension.

Found it. It was in the My Documents folder. I was looking in the system folders and temp folders.
