Create image of Raspberry Pi boot SD card

Hi,
Just looking for confirmation that an image of a Raspberry Pi boot SD card is likely to work. I have already created the backup image in device mode but clearly have no way of testing currently. Windows does not recognise the image when mounted using VirtualClone Drive (presumably because it contains unrecognisable partitions).

My understanding is that USBIT is filesytem agnostic & therefore should work. Here is a link to an image of the card partition layout:

Thank you in advance.

Well, the link is currently down. Unfortunately, I don't have an Raspberry Pi, so I can't confirm the image working. Some guys playing arround with that device use USB Image Tool to write it to the SD cards, so maybe that is how you got to this forum. Perhaps I will get one for myself, it looks interesting.

I've tried using USB Image Tool to save the Raspberry Pi SD to an img file on an NTFS partition. It happily images the 57 MB FAT partition, but ignores the Linux partition (approximately 7 GB). Win32DiskImager does the same thing. If anyone has a working solution please let us know. Cheers David

Did you use device mode? Windows only recognizes the first partition on flash drives. In device mode you can backup the device regardless its partition data.

The Volume Mode is gray'ed out and I can't make the drop down work, how do I switch it to Device Mode?
I have a 4GB SD card and can backup the first part but not the unix part.

Right-click the exe, Run as admin. Please read FAQ first. I guess the next version will always ask for admin rights.

Left mouse click on USB Image Tool.exe, select Trouble Shoot Compatibility/Troubleshoot program Check the box next to The program requires additional permissions, click Next, Click start the program, click next, click Yes, save these settings for this program

writes 848,576KB before I get an ERROR 1117
Image on SD Card works without a problem

Error 1117 basically means io error, hinting there is something wrong with the flash drive or sd card.
