Best practice for save backups

Hi

I use your great tool. Congrats.

I always save with no compression for backup my USB drives.
But now I need to save space and try gzip and zip option. gzip ask to activate truncate oversize images option that can result in data loss.

What is better? zip format or make a img file with no native compression from UIT and then use 7zip to shrink it.

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback.

Compression will be useful, if your USB drives are mostly empty (and have not been filled with data before). If you have used a lot of space on your USB disks and this data is not very compressable (like already compressed jpegs, mp3 or video files, etc.), storing as gzip or zip won't save much space.

Using gzip is safe, if you are sure about you source and target device size. Because of file format limitations, size information in gzip files is not valid for devices > 4 GiB. You will probably het the best compression results, if you store raw images first and then use 7zip manually on the image.

Thanks.

I use devices with more than 4GB. And I can save a lot of space with compression. Mostly backups are OS recovery medias.
I second a suggestion of implementing 7zip compression in your app. Just make it more perfect.
Thank again. This kind of apps save us time end make our job easier.
