reformat MBR to GUID Partition Table (GPT)

I would want to know if the USB image tool backup image is created from a GPT USB device and I want to restore this to a new MBR formatted USB device, do I need to format it to GPT first or will the tool format the new USB device to GPT automatically?

If the GPT is included in the RAW image (which it should be, when you use device mode), the new device should get the same GPT automatically.
