Because of more comments asking for what a specific error code means, I decided to add a more detailed error message. It shows the text provided by Windows. Most of the error codes are usual code 5. In that case you most likely forgot to close the window, that got opened when you plugged in the USB flash drive. In that case the device can’t be locked and you can’t use Backup or Restore on this device. You have to close the opened window first.
May I set the device mode as default ?

I think I will make it the default mode in the next version, if USB Image Tool gets started with administrative rights.
Beim Versuch einen UBCD-Stick (8GB) auf einen anderen 8GB-Stick zu kopieren stellte sich heraus, dass der Quellstick mit 7,57GB etwas größer ist als der Zielstick (7,44GB). Nachdem der Stick bootable bleiben soll muß ja der Device-Mode gewählt werden. Und dieser kopiert den gesamten Speicher. Gibt es irgendeine Möglichkeit von der etwas zu großen Quelldatei etwas “wegzuschneiden” damit sie auf den Stick passt? Oder gibt es sonst eine Möglichkeit. Mfg Richard
Man kann mit diversen Tools Datei splitten. Man kann diese Images auch zurücksichern. Allerdings ist nicht sichergestellt, dass dieses Image dann auch fehlerfrei funktioniert, bzw. ist ist sogar ziemlich sicher,dass damit Probleme auftreten. Zum einen stimmen die Kopfinformationen in der Partitionstabelle nicht mit den tatsächlichen Gegebenheiten überein, zum anderen kann man nicht sicher sagen, welche Daten u.U. verloren gehen. Das Betriebssystem kann theoretisch die Daten auch bei leeren Partitionen in den abgetrennten Teil geschrieben haben. Eine sichere Möglichkeit ist nur, mittels eines Partitionierungstools die Partition im Vorfeld zu verkleinern.
Ok. Dann bin ich auf jeden Fall sehr gespannt auf die nächste Version! Da ist natürlich eine Frage unausweichlich: Bis wann ist denn mit der nächsten Version zu rechnen? Gibt es eine Beta-Version? Gruß Richard

Hm, it worked fine on my new Win7 notebook. I even tested it on the RC1 before the official release. Any specific information on this? Does NOT work isn’t very helpfuf in finding the problem.
Das Problem des Klonen eines (etwas) größeren USB-Sticks auf einen kleineren konnte mit HDClone (Miray Software) gelöst werden.

Very usefull, but seem to have a small problem when using
%ts and %ds parameter in “Suggest backup filename” :
string like / or : does not match for a filename, so i have to change !
Could it be possible to change date format to 01-01-200x and time to 09m-11s ???

Currently I’m using the user’s locale settings for date and time. Because some date/time formats contain symbols, that are not valid for file names, this problem arises. I think I wil come up with a solution in the next version.
I am running this tool under an official final build of Windows 7 (I got the DVD + key at the Microsoft launch party) and it works absolutely fine under Windows 7!
If you want to use device mode, of course you will have to start it up with administrative rights. Read the FAQ 🙂
